Poet Ricardo Ruiz will teach a bilingual writing workshop, Finding Your Voice, on how the practice of mindfulness and poetry can help a person discover their voice.


The workshop will introduce poetry and demonstrate how it can help us develop self-awareness and expression. The class is open to all. No prior writing experience is needed! The workshop will include basic mindfulness practices and guided writing expenses. Participants will write one poem by the end of the session.

El poeta Ricardo Ruiz estará enseñando un taller de escritura, Encuentra tu voz, cómo la práctica del mindfulness y la poesía pueden ayudar a una persona a descubrir su voz.


El taller presentará la poesía y demostrará cómo puede ayudarnos a desarrollar la autoconciencia y la expresión. La clase está abierta a todos. ¡No se necesita experiencia previa en escritura! El taller incluirá prácticas básicas de mindfulness y gastos de escritura guiada. Los participantes escribirán un poema al final de la sesión.


El programa se impartirá en español/inglés.

Bio

Ricardo Ruiz is a multi-dimensional writer of poetry and prose, father, and combat veteran. Just announced this week, he is always a 2023 Washington State Book Award Finalist for Poetry! 


The son of potato factory workers, Ricardo hails from Othello, Washington and his works often draw from his experience as a first-generation Mexican-American. He is passionate about elevating the marginalized voices from rural communities and takes pride in being a conduit for cultural connection. His own struggles straddling cultures provide insight to the difficulties of the Mexican migrant worker and their families.


Ricardo holds a Associates Degree in Business and Accounting from Big Bend Community College where he was recognized as Student of the year in both Business and Economics and English Composition. He also holds a Bachelors of Art in English: Creative Writing from the University of Washington and is an Army Veteran. While in the military Ricardo was recognized as Distinguished Honor Graduate and Distinguished Leader during his Advanced Leadership Course.
